Great Show, strange venue
TPAC is known for a genteel audience. Then we show up. Very nice lady in charge of our 'portal'. Asked her if she had been out to the parking lot/vending area. She laughed and said "well,it's not our usual Sound of Music crowd" Band was tight, restless and ready to play. First set opened with a short jam and then bam, that first dm chord of shakedown. you just know it's gonna be good. nice first set mix, Dead, Peggy Lee , Stones and of course, Dylan. Between sets I wandered down to the stage, 1/2 way between Weir and Wasserman to check out the equipment. The TPAC staff was not wise to our ways and simply whispered to themselves. We were still 'checking out the stuff' when the lights went down. Rather than go through the set-list, just listen to the recording. Time well spent. The utter highlight for me was, coming out of a Jay Lane powered jam, those first chords of Help on the Way. It is my favorite Dead song, standing head and shoulders (and arm pits) above all others. I feared that I might not get to hear it again live after Garcia's passing. Yet here it was. I caught Wasserman's eye and mouthed "thank you" to him. He just nodded and smiled. The band smoked on it, slipnot and into Franklin's.
Thanks for recording this and posting it. I have worn out several CDs of this concert. You have provided the recording of one of the memorable nights of my life.
